This course focuses on the theories, concepts and tools of strategic management. Typically, the term "strategic" management refers to seeing the company and its environment and considering long-run decisions that affect the company as a whole. The central aim of the course is to understand the formulation and implementation of strategies for single business units.
Topics to be discussed are the following:
1. Concept of Strategy and Strategic Management
2. External and Internal Analysis as the Basis of Strategy Formulation
3. Strategy Formulation - Competitive Advantages and Core of Business Strategy
4. Creative Positioning and New Game Strategies
5. Sustainability and Dynamics of Competitive Advantages
6. Strategy Implementation
7. International Strategies
The course provides the analytic and conceptual foundations for making strategic decisions at business level, using a combination of lectures, discussions and case studies. Thus, for the class to work well, all students are expected to arrive in class, having read the assigned cases and to be prepared to offer and defend their analysis and recommendations.
