Corporate Finance

Prof. Chris Muscarella
Fall -- 1 credit

In this course we will study the application of financial theory in a series of real case situations. The objective is to allow the student to experience the solution of financial problems in real settings and to encounter the complexities caused by the intersection between theory and practice.

Topics will include financial analysis and planning, understanding the cost of capital, capital structure execution, capital expenditure analysis, valuing the enterprise, mergers and acquisitions, and shareholder value analysis

Corporate Finance is designed to be a practical, overview course.  As such, the objective is to draw together the various topics in managerial finance and present a unified, integrated view of the overall subject areas.  The course builds upon and reinforces the theoretical and institutional framework learned in introductory business finance courses, and primarily through the vehicle of case analyses, seeks to apply these concepts to real or simulated business situations.

The course will be taught entirely by the case method. There will be an assigned textbook and a series of cases. The emphasis is on the cases; the textbook is for background reading and preparation. All students are expected to come to class prepared to discuss the issues in the cases. You will be called on for your views and opinions.
